Mindful Parenting: Practice and Support Group, Thursday, September 27, 2018, 6:30pm - 8:00pm, Heritage Room. Mindful Parenting: Practice and Support Parenting can be one of the most challenging roles of our lives, yet few of us walk into it having the inner resources and skill sets it demands. Mindfulness practices can be a powerful source of refuge while managing the challenges of modern-day parenting. Being a mindful parent means living with greater awareness of our moment-to-moment experience while cultivating a nonjudgmental acceptance of ourselves and our children. The intention and invitation of the Mindful Parenting: Practice and Support group is to offer a space for parents, grandparents, child care providers and educators to explore a fuller knowing of themselves and their deepest needs while honoring the sovereignty of the children they care about.

This group meets the fourth Thursday of the month.

Monthly session content will include formal meditation practice, presentations of themes within mindful parenting and community discussion.

Whether new to mindful parenting and mindfulness-based practices or a seasoned practitioner, this monthly offering will provide participants a means to cultivate their personal practice and find support among others who seek to be fully present for the journey of caring for themselves while also caring for children. This group is facilitated by Amy Zoe Schonhoff, a mother, qualified teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and a mindfulness practitioner for over twenty years.

Unified Mindfulness is a comprehensive system that unites core practices of the world's contemplative traditions with the science-based methodology of the West.  Leading institutions such as Harvard and Carnegie-Mellon use it as the basis for their mindfulness research. Learn how to apply a range of meditation techniques from this simple yet powerful system to daily life activities in this 8-week course.

Suitable for all levels of experience from complete beginners to advanced meditators.

Mindfulness practices can be a great source of refuge while managing the challenges of modern-day parenting. Over thirty years of empirical research suggests that developing the skills of mindfulness can reduce stress and anxiety, improve well-being, increase relationship satisfaction, adaptability, empathy, and compassion.

In this 2.5 hour interactive presentation and practice session you will be introduced to the foundations of mindful parenting, learn strategies to cultivate mindfulness in your daily life, foster the parent/child connection, and develop your child’s capacity for self-reflection.

About the Teacher: Amy Zoe Schonhoff is a qualified teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, the wellness program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the UMass Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness. What is it?

Serenity Pause™ meditation sessions are available to people form all walks of life and from all religious backgrounds and spiritual traditions. These sessions are offered daily at scheduled times throughout the week, making it easy for you to drop by and drop in to a place of peace and serenity - away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. No previous meditation experience is necessary. Each meditation time includes meditation instruction, time to sit, and time to discuss. Both chairs and mat/cushions are provided. All Serenity Pause™ meditation sessions are offered on a love offering donation basis.

Space is available for individual meditation Mondays - Saturdays from 10:00am to 9:00pm.
